Kowloon Sam Yuk Secondary School is a Direct Subsidy Co-educational School located in Yau Tsim Mong. Under the general trend of promoting the development of smart cities around the world, Kowloon Sam Yuk Secondary School has tried to incorporate GIS (Geospatial Information Technology) and BIM (Building Information Modeling), which are widely used in the fields of smart buildings, smart cities, and low-altitude economy, into regular courses since the 2019-20 school year, becoming the first school in Hong Kong to provide similar courses.

The school is also actively cooperating with different sectors and has signed memorandums of cooperation with several companies in the information technology sector. For example, it has jointly developed school-based geospatial data courses, provided teacher training and technical support with Esri China (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd., and collaborated with other communities to promote GIS learning. This cooperative relationship is a precedent in the middle school sector. In addition, under the guidance of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, the school has also signed strategic cooperation memorandums with the park's intelligent robot companies FJ Dynamics and Green Vigor to jointly promote innovative education and sustainable development technology.

Dr. Huang Huimin, a senior professional in the smart construction industry, also led a number of people from the engineering, construction and surveying professions to establish the "Project Luminary" for the school to guide students to understand smart construction and digital technology in the construction industry. The project also established special scholarships for current students or alumni with excellent performance in STEAM and engineering disciplines to apply.

In the past year, the school focused on GeoBIM teaching, and 80% of junior high school students successfully obtained the preliminary BIM Viewer certification. This certificate involves practical skills such as construction simulation and construction leadership, and is aligned with the relevant standards of the Construction Industry Council (CIC), laying the foundation for students to engage in architectural design, interior planning and other work in the future. Students can also apply to become Young Members of professional organizations such as the Hong Kong Institute of Building Information Modeling (HKIBIM), thereby taking a step outside the classroom and gaining opportunities to interact with and learn from professionals. For students with stronger abilities, the school also provides advanced training.

Kowloon Sam Yuk Secondary School also implements gifted programs to maximize students' potential and participate in various off-campus competitions. Starting from 2022, it has won multiple awards in the Development Bureau's "Spatial Data Sharing Platform Award" over the years. Secondary 3 students participated in the STEAMX BIM construction model creative design competition held by the Hong Kong Institute of Construction and won the runner-up in the junior high school group. The student's architectural design project "Bauhinia House" was highly praised by the judges. From 2022 to 25, it has also won multiple awards in the GIS Academy GIS Application Competition in the past few years, which shows that the development of school-based courses has accumulated certain results.

Diverse learning experiences to expand horizons

In order to allow students to grow in practice, the school has carefully planned a variety of study tours and exchange activities, focusing on skill learning and experiential growth, so that students can be exposed to new things and improve their abilities in real scenarios. Principal Leung Wing Mui said: "This summer, we organized a Japanese Fukuoka sports exchange group. With school team members as the core, we specially arranged baseball learning courses in Japan. Under the guidance of local professional venues and coaches, we learned about baseball rules and techniques from scratch, and immersed ourselves in the charm of sports. Another team went to Guizhou to participate in Rongjiang Village Super Football Exchange. I Students from our school became the first batch of Hong Kong middle school students to participate in the event. The Village Super League stadium is large and can accommodate tens of thousands of spectators. Although the opponents are both middle school students, they are from the Sports College. Although there is a slight difference in strength, our students still play hard with the spirit of "Chasing the ball in life" (the slogan of the Village Super League)... showing excellent sportsmanship!"

In the field of art, the school organizes students to participate in exchange activities with the British Marching Band. The participating students had no background in marching band before, but due to their interest in military music, they took the initiative to participate in nine months of special training. They learn snare drum playing and footwork under the guidance of professional teachers. Finally, the students went to Liverpool, England, during the summer vacation to cooperate with the marching band of a friend school and complete public performances in the streets, city hall and other places. Throughout the process, students not only mastered new skills, but also improved their self-confidence and teamwork skills in cross-cultural communication.

The school also plans to promote the "English AI Interactive Robot" project, where students can assemble LEGO robots with their own hands, and program the robots to achieve functions such as English conversation, reading English books aloud, and correcting pronunciation.
