"Future Ready"-based learning English in an all-round way

"Nurture Future Talents, Cultivate Abundant Lives" is the development theme of Sha Tin Methodist College this year. Principal CHEUNG Chui Yee With the orientation of "Future Ready" (preparing for the future), students can prepare for sustainable development through the four dimensions of Sustainable me, Sustainable School, Sustainable City and Sustainable World through the issues of sustainable development in the world. The school actively cooperates with the development trend of education and adopts diversified teaching strategies to ensure that students can learn and express themselves in English more effectively and become future leaders.

Flexible application of innovative technology for personalized English learning

Principal CHEUNG Chui Yee is open to innovative technology, actively introduces electronic platforms, and implements the concept of independent learning to deepen students' English learning effects. For example, AI correction tools have been introduced to allow students to receive immediate feedback after completing their essays to achieve personalized learning; they have cooperated with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to use AI and VR technology to create 3D scenarios for students to conduct virtual debates and improve their speaking skills. In addition, the school also organizes top students to participate in American Book Association activities, using AI to create, and outstanding works have a greater chance of being published.

Class-style English activities promote all-round language development

The school creates a diverse platform and arranges all-level activities for all levels to ensure that every student has the opportunity to participate and promote the all-round development of English. In Form One, students create new festivals around specific topics and use AI to produce promotional videos; in Form Two, students create digital stories and use AI and applications for role-playing; in Form Three, they explore intangible cultural heritage through interdisciplinary projects and present English reports in groups. Design booth games; the Form 4 curriculum is integrated into the Filmit micro-film competition, where students from all levels work together in groups, covering aspects such as conception, shooting and editing, to express their ideas in English; Form 5 and 6 focus on social issue debates and academic expression, so as to prepare for public examinations in the best possible condition.

Promote cross-curricular reading to achieve dual improvement of language and thinking

The school actively promotes cross-curricular reading (RAC), which deeply integrates the humanistic heritage of Western classical literature, the logical thinking of scientific concepts, the spiritual core of Chinese culture, and the character guidance of value education. Through the classic "Secret Garden" as a carrier, students are guided to appreciate the narrative charm of classic literature, realize the value connotation, and further link up with natural ecological topics, not only to achieve the improvement of Chinese literacy, but also to complete the training of scientific thinking.

In addition, "Flame Wood Art Collection" and "Skylark" published by the school collect students' works and encourage students to respond, share and reflect on each other. English Ambassadors regularly discuss social issues through live broadcasts and publish students’ responses in magazines. At the same time, they also served as morning assembly emcee, lunchtime English interaction and song sharing and other activities, presenting cultural and social issues from different angles and deepening students' global citizenship and sustainable development concepts.

International English experience to cultivate future leaders

In order to cultivate future leaders, the school uses international English experience to broaden students' horizons and knowledge and help them meet future challenges. The school will lead students with outstanding expression skills to participate in debate competitions and "Model United Nations Conferences" (MUN) to communicate with other schools, focus on global sustainable development issues, and practice their English speech and communication skills.

In addition, the school also organizes overseas exchange activities and plans to take students to the UK to interact with professors and students from famous local universities, learn about and experience courses at foreign universities, and allow students to expand their knowledge while planning their careers. Earlier, some students have been selected to participate in experiential courses at foreign universities. This is not only an affirmation of their academic strength, but also a rare opportunity to explore and encourage students to transform the knowledge they have learned into practice.

The education major is highly recognized and has achieved great results in competitions

Over the years, the outstanding performance of students and the school's policies have been repeatedly recognized. Take the Filmit competition as an example. The school team has won the championship twice and won the Best Cinematography Award last year. It was also invited to share innovative concepts on how to combine the competition with the curriculum. In addition, the school responded to the Education Bureau's SOW activities and launched a reading program, which was commended for its diversified approach.

During the event we were required to negotiate in English on behalf of a country. This enabled me to become proficient in speaking and negotiating in both academic and formal English, and I learned communication and negotiation skills.
