"Nature Education" nourishes positive emotions

Principal Leung Wing Mui refers to the school’s unswerving Christian holistic education policy, which values the balanced development of spirit, intelligence, and body, and is committed to the education of love.

For example, the school uses the theme of "Integrating Nature into Education" to promote diversified tutoring activities. The school believes that nature exudes unique vitality. By learning to take care of these plants and small lives, it not only cultivates students' positive thinking and mental toughness, but also relieves students' mental stress, which significantly helps improve students' mood, interpersonal relationships and concentration. The campus has built a "Sanyu Small Farm" to allow students to experience the fun of organic farming.

Sam & Yuk are definitely the "transfer students" who get the most attention from the whole school! They are the new bearded dragon lizards adopted by the school. The school specially recruited caregivers for the bearded dragon lizards, and the biology teacher also made an exhibition board to introduce the living habits of the bearded dragon lizards.

Students from the "Fish Tank Landscaping" Society are regularly responsible for changing water, pruning aquatic plants, feeding fish food, cleaning water filters, maintaining stable water quality, maintaining carbon dioxide concentration, and maintaining the ecological balance of photosynthesis. Every time during recess or after school, the students would go to this green ecological fish tank to carefully watch the green aquatic plants, small fish and shrimps.

On the all-round learning day, the whole school engages in outdoor learning. For example, Form 1 and Form 3 students went to Mai Po and urban parks for ecological inspections respectively, and observed birds and surrounding ecological conditions under the guidance of professional instructors. The entire Form 3 students were also mobilized to conduct bird surveys in urban parks. Birdwatching instructors led the students to identify birds, learn to collect data, and create electronic maps. Principal Leung Wing Mui even personally organized ecological night walks for students and parents to explore various insects that appear in the dark and learn about the habits of different animals. Everyone enjoyed being in nature.

Featured STEM courses inspire passion for learning and award-winning GIS learning

The school will launch the "School-based Spatial Intelligence Pilot Course" from 2021. This course is led by urban planners and surveyors as consultants. Through theoretical explanations, on-site inspections, and the use of online platforms, students learn to process spatial data.

Students participated in the "Geographical Information System Application Open 2022" and won the championship of the junior high school group and the merit award of the high school group respectively. Later, the students were invited to attend a sharing session organized by the Geospatial Laboratory, where they introduced the learning results of GIS technology in the study of community historical buildings to the Secretary for Education, Dr. Catherine Choi. In 2023, he won awards in 5 subject groups in the ArcGIS Story Map Application Competition (organized by Esri China (Hong Kong)); he also won the third place in the junior group and the merit award in the high school group in the Spatial Data Sharing Platform Awards 2023 organized by the Hong Kong Development Bureau; and the silver medal in the 2023 Greater Bay Area STEM Excellence Award (Hong Kong).

Principal Leung Wing Mui repeatedly emphasized: "In the era of big data in the global digital transformation, Data is New Oil allows students to contact and understand spatial data, and learn application and analysis skills. It is of great significance for young people to face a future society with massive information." Starting from 2021, the school has been invited to be a guest at the Innovation and Technology Commission's Innovation and Technology Carnival Public Lecture and the Development Bureau's Geospatial Laboratory for three consecutive years, sharing the learning and teaching experience of geospatial information.

Provide diversified special activities for students to participate for free

The school attaches great importance to students' language foundation and often organizes different language learning activities to consolidate their biliteracy and trilingualism. In addition, the school hired three additional foreign English teachers to take advantage of the teacher-student ratio, enrich students' learning experience, and take care of learning diversity.

The school will also hold a grand English musical, with foreign teachers both inside and outside the school responsible for everything from script writing to rehearsals. In terms of casting, the school also has different criteria: as long as they are willing to try and commit to participating in rehearsals throughout the process, any student will have the opportunity to step on the stage. Guide students into the magnificent palace of Chinese culture

The school holds Chinese Culture Week every year to create more opportunities for students to experience Chinese culture. It has cooperated with the "Collection of Past Treasures" to organize the "Treasures of the Ages" historical cultural relics exhibition.

The school has a "Cultural Relics Pavilion" that displays cultural relics and teaching aids from different historical eras, from stone tools in ancient times to Guangcai porcelain exported in the last century. Behind each teaching aid is a fascinating historical story.

This year, the school also participated in the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation's "Master Lecture for Children" event. Mr. Wu Weishan, a famous Chinese sculpture master, personally visited the campus to explain sculpture art and Chinese culture to students.

The school has been implementing its mission for more than 70 years since its founding, providing high-quality holistic education to young students. The school also cares about the needs of the community. With the support of the school sponsoring body, although the school charges low tuition fees, it awards about 120 scholarships every year. Most extracurricular activities and classes are free of charge. Application for tuition exemption is simple. Secondary One students who follow the principal's recommendation program are even exempted from six years of tuition fees and a full-fee subsidy for the first year's textbook expenses.
