Multiple English Strategies to Establish a Sense of Success in Learning

The school has always kept pace with the times and optimized school-based curriculum design. For primary one and two students, foreign teachers have specially designed a school-based phonics course "Phonics Plus", which combines a group teaching model to allow each student to read English aloud, improve their spelling, pronunciation and listening abilities, and deepen their reading and writing skills. Teachers will also select British classics for students and lead them to read literary works, such as The Gruffalo, The Tiger Who Came To Tea and works by Roald Dahl, to immerse them in a strong and natural English context. The English subject team will incorporate drama elements into the teaching process. Students in each class need to present the knowledge they have learned in the form of opera, puppets and other dramas.

In addition to school-based courses, the school also organizes large-scale English speaking days and holds themed English activities around different themes such as China, Care for others, Christmas, STEAM, Olympics, World Book Week, etc. Students need to use English to participate in booth games, and through the activities, students' interest in learning and self-learning spirit are enhanced. The English subject team also organized large-scale book activities in conjunction with World Reading Week, including role-playing as book characters, English book promotions, and borrowing a large number of English books from public libraries to school. In addition, the school opens an English room every day, where foreign teachers prepare different activities to lead students to participate in, such as reading books, singing games, table games and watching movies, etc., allowing students to immerse themselves in a relaxed and enjoyable English learning atmosphere.

For example, the fifth grade cooperates with the visual arts department to teach students to create magazine pages and introduce an Asian festival; the sixth grade combines it with the general knowledge department. Students need to use English to interview family members about environmental issues, understand the style of encyclopedias, and complete articles about endangered animals, thereby promoting students' understanding of environmental issues and spreading awareness of protecting the environment and caring for animals.

In addition to attaching great importance to students' academic performance, the school also attaches great importance to their character development. Therefore, it specially designs positive education activities for students in grades one to six to help students establish correct values, learn to appreciate each other, accept similarities and differences, and care for the needs of others.
