Carefully design reading materials to create independent learning habits

Consolidating students' Chinese language foundation is a major teaching policy of the school, focusing on strengthening students' English learning ability. The school is committed to teaching from reading, which not only helps improve students' language sense and ability to understand reading texts, but also helps develop their writing skills. Starting in 2018, the school has cooperated with the Language Support Section of the Education Bureau to promote book teaching in an all-round way. In addition to focusing on English textbooks, the class also provides four sets of reading materials at different levels throughout the year, including novels, picture books, etc., to improve students' writing and expression skills. Since the last school year, the school has fully implemented English book teaching at all levels, integrating it into regular courses and matching unit themes, aiming to cultivate students' reading interests and habits from elementary school onwards, and enhance students' reading quantity and depth in addition to textbooks. The content of the book is progressive, with pictures as the main focus at first, and as the students get older, the proportion of text increases. By enhancing the depth of reading, students can master new knowledge and set their own learning goals. Students will also spontaneously conduct extended reading according to their personal interests and establish the habit of independent learning.

Director of the English Department Liang Peiying added that in line with the development of the English Department, foreign English teachers also conduct guided reading in the classroom with English teachers, aiming to introduce students to more books with different text types and characteristics, and create a pleasant and comfortable reading environment. Foreign teachers divide students into groups for reading teaching in class according to their reading levels to meet the learning needs of different students and take care of learning differences.

Professional teaching team, the results are highly recognized

Outside the classroom, the teaching team will recommend suitable books based on students' learning level, progress, and personal characteristics, and coordinate the "Book Character Day" to encourage teachers and students across the school to participate. On that day, students will design relevant costumes and props based on their favorite characters in the book and dress up as the character. They will introduce their favorite characters in the book to their classmates in English, creating a relaxed and enjoyable English learning environment. The school has invested all its resources in the book teaching program, and the efforts of the teaching team have achieved remarkable results and have been widely praised. The English team has been invited by the Education Bureau to share valuable teaching experience with other schools and contribute to the sector as educators.

Foreign teachers are highly involved in strengthening spelling skills

Curriculum courses for foreign English teachers are also co-written by foreign teachers and English teachers in collaboration with each other to enhance students' effectiveness in learning English. The Pinyin course helps students recognize English vocabulary and helps improve students' reading ability, thereby enhancing students' ability to understand English texts and their fluency in reading texts. In addition, the English subject group will also provide a performance stage "Little Stars on Stage", where students can freely participate in storytelling, singing, reciting, etc., all with students' personal participation. Through activities, students' expression skills are strengthened, students' interest in learning is enhanced, and students can express themselves and develop their strengths.

The school will also select students to serve as English ambassadors to promote English culture. They will become campus KOLs, write articles and shoot short videos to be broadcast on campus TV stations. During recess and lunch breaks, foreign teachers will also talk to students of different grades on topics including foreign culture, riddles, cartoons, etc., giving students ample opportunities to communicate in English in campus life and express their thoughts in English in a relaxed environment. In addition to the student level, foreign teachers also run pinyin classes for parents. The purpose is to let parents experience first-hand how students learn pinyin at school.
