A Good or Bad Study Environment Affects Focus — Does Your Child's Desk Pass the Test?

Adequate lighting, the right chair height, and no distractions may seem like small details, but they have a big impact on a child's focus and learning efficiency.

Many parents only care about which practice exercise books to buy for their children, but overlook a very important factor — the learning environment. A good learning environment can improve concentration and reduce fatigue while studying.

Plenty of light

The place where children read and write should be well lit, but sunlight should not shine directly onto the paper or into their eyes. The ideal setup is ceiling lights combined with a desk lamp, giving light that is even and soft.

The chair and desk heights should match

When a child sits down, both feet should rest flat on the floor, with knees bent at 90 degrees. The desk height should allow the child's forearms to rest naturally with elbows at 90 degrees on the desk. If the chair is too high or too low, the child will quickly feel uncomfortable.

Reduce distractions

Do not put toys, comics or snacks on the desk. The television and computer screen should be kept out of sight. If possible, take phones and tablets out of the room during homework time.

Good ventilation

A well-ventilated environment can reduce the chance of children feeling drowsy. The study room should be kept ventilated, or windows opened regularly for fresh air.
