curriculum_planning"Our school-based curriculum is centred around picture books. Parents are given a reading guide to accompany the reading of each picture book. With the reading guide, parents can get a better grasp of the story, and use the discussion questions in it for more bookish fun and getting a deeper understanding of their children’s inner world. The reading guide also comes with cultural information related to the story, enabling readers to make connections with local life while reading. It also suggests places parents can visit with their children, encouraging children to gain knowledge through hands-on experience. Our school-based curriculum is a “living” one. We also pay attention to children’s second language acquisition. We have specialist teachers teaching Putonghua and English. Through morning assemblies, class activities, songs, conversations, role-plays and games, children are given opportunities to learn and apply what they have learnt. In our English lessons, we teach children English phonics in addition to English textbook content to help children acquire a good pronunciation and learn to read using phonics. We will follow the “Kindergarten Education Curriculum Guide” (2017) to plan curriculum. Children of nursery classes will not be asked to write, and there will not be mechanical copying exercises and drills on calculation."
learning_or_teaching_approach_and_activities"The project-based approach is adopted picture books, free game, group, five days English Lesson and art activities are provided to guide children build up knowledge through interactions. Various explorative activities are arranged to stimulate children to think and foster interest in learning through observation, discussions and putting what is learnt into practice. Our assignments are designed according to child development theories, with elements that develop learners’ thinking skills and support local needs. Parents are a child’s most important teacher and the key of curriculum success. This is why parent-child exercises are the core of our assignment design. It’s all about quality, not quantity. To prevent children from getting tired of studying, we only give them writing exercises that include the writing of the same word 8 times or less. Through doing these assignments, children can broaden their thinking skills, acquire knowledge naturally and become active learners. That’s what “quality, not quantity” is all about."
assessment_of_children_learning_experiences"Children’s performance is observed on an ongoing basis for analysis of their learning efficacy. The ‘profile on the journey of learning’ is kept for each child; the contents include: observation report, ongoing assessment report and integrated performance."
support_to_students"School-based social workers provide support and counseling services for parents, and play therapy services for children with individual needs; primary one adaptation activities, visit and simulate primary school life; new students adaptation class is provided to help children adapt to campus life promptly."
